Recently, the Jidian (Weifang) 500 kV booster station and transmission line project, EPC-contracted by Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp., Ltd (SDEPCI), was successfully energized in one attempt. This project is the first new energy initiative invested and constructed by SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation) to transmit electricity at the 500 kV voltage level. It serves as a critical hub for boosting, converging, and transmitting power from the 2750 MW projects in the Weifang wind-solar-storage base and the Shandong Northern saline-alkali wasteland new energy base.
Meticulous Craftsmanship, Pursuit of Excellence
The project optimized the overall station layout by integrating the 500 kV and 220 kV busbars, effectively saving land and reducing costs. The 500 kV GIS foundation adopted an “island + raft” structural design to minimize surface cracking. A fusion-style integrated automation design was implemented, sharing the station control layer network between the booster station and the photovoltaic plant, providing a reference for future large-scale base transmission projects. Drone-assisted route selection was employed, with multiple “north-central-south” scheme comparisons conducted, significantly reducing fieldwork time and selecting the most technically and economically optimal solution.
Technology-Driven Safety, Strict Process Control
A three-tier quality management system was established, encompassing “pre-review of plans + model guidance, lean management + secondary design, quality inspections + high-standard acceptance”, ensuring intrinsic safety. A safety credit management method was introduced, featuring a safety credit store, reflection rooms, and experience zones to create a diversified safety reward and punishment mechanism. Smart construction site management cloud platform technology was adopted, along with full-coverage automatic violation detection and refined management practices. Drones were used for route selection and inspections, while 5G, GPS positioning, and camera technologies enabled real-time monitoring of tower operations.
Overcoming Challenges, Successful Completion
The project integrated design, procurement, construction, and commissioning throughout the entire process. Faced with complex challenges such as the technical intricacies of booster station installation and commissioning, adverse tower base environments, and multiple critical crossings, the project team planned ahead, identified risks and construction difficulties, coordinated resources, and employed full-process mechanized construction methods. These efforts optimized workflow, improved resource allocation, and ensured high-quality project execution. Under the guidance of State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company and Weifang Power Supply Company, the team collaborated with all participating units to overcome obstacles and guarantee the project's smooth commissioning.
