On October 31, the International Project Management Association (IPMA) held an online award ceremony to announce the results of the 2020 International Project Management Awards. Shandong Institute's design of the 2×660MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant project in Payala, Bangladesh has won the International Mega Project Management Silver Award--- the highest award in the energy industry of IPMA in 2020. Previously, the Meizhou Bay project, which was constructed under the general contract of Shandong Institute, had won the Gold Award at the IPMA International Excellence in Project Management Awards in 2017.
Payala project is the largest capacity and highest parameter coal-fired power plant project in Bangladesh, and it is an important project relying on the practical cooperation between the Chinese and Bangladesh governments in the field of energy and power. As a design organization, SDEPCI insists on building a brand project with heartfelt design, assured technology and reliable service to light up the beautiful scenery of the Bay of Bengal.
The project adopts Chinese technology and equipment and is designed and constructed by a Chinese design institute and infrastructure team. As the first ultra-supercritical 660MW coal power unit in Bangladesh, it is the first time that a 610℃ reheat parameter ultra-supercritical unit made in China is applied overseas, and it is also the first time that Shandong Institute's invention patent "Multi-Water Integrated Water Treatment System" is applied to an overseas Belt and Road power plant project. The award for the Payala project marks the first time that Shandong Institute's invention patent "Multi-water integrated power plant with water treatment system" is applied to overseas "Belt and Road" power plant projects.
The award for the Payala project signifies that the management level of Chinese enterprises has reached the international advanced standard, which is another proof of the increasing international competitiveness and influence of Chinese enterprises, which are gradually becoming an innovative model representing the development direction of international project management.
IPMA is an international professional organization for project management originated in 1964, which promotes the sharing, exchange, and practice of advanced project management concepts globally, and organizes the annual selection of project excellence awards since 2002. Up to now, IPMA International Project Management Award has become the most famous and recognized international management award, which is the highest level of honor for project management in the world and is regarded as the "Oscar" in the field of project management, with projects from many different countries competing for the award every year.
